Estee Lauder and Andrea Syrtash Presents “Makeup, Martinis & Men”

Andrea Syrtash

Andrea Syrtash

I am so proud of my friend Andrea Syrtash. She has been working incredibly hard these past few months on a variety of interesting projects and it’s starting to pay off in a very big way!

Andrea, as many of you know, is a good friend, a past (and future) speaker at NY:MIEG events, and is a truly special person.  She has written and lectured extensively on relationships and living a fulfilling life, and is writing a new advice book for Rodale which will be released later this year. Andrea also writes a regular dating column for Yahoo and is currently writing and hosting ON DATING, a dating advice show produced by NBC Digital Studios for ON Networks.

She recently partnered with Estee Lauder and SOHO Bloomingdales and is producing a special event called “Makeup, Martinis & Men” for single women 25-40. I encourage my single female friends to attend this wonderful evening Feb 3!

The Visual Effects behind “The Curioius Case of Benjamin Button”

Fascinating interview…not to mention I have know Ed Ulbrich of Digital Domain since his days in advertising at Leo Burnett in Chicago.

BTW…if you haven’t seen the film go see it.

Fitting Visual Effects into Benjamin Button’s Workflow
Director David Fincher’s new film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, was created using a refined version of Fincher’s all-digital filmmaking pipeline that he used on his last movie, Zodiac (listen to Fincher speak on Zodiac here). Once again, Fincher relied on Grass Valley Viper cameras and S.Two hard drive recording systems, but this time, on a movie with major and complex visual effects-particularly the sophisticated work done to age actor Brad Pitt backwards. Breaking News

Ellis Henican: Uncle Ted, is it payback time yet?

Ok…I admit it…I have my favorites…people who are close friends, advisors and people who I trust..both personally and professionally and the feeling (I hope) is mutual. I don’t need to name them…just check my blog on a regular basis and you will notice I use terms like “my good friend,” “my dear friend,” “my advisor” and my Rabbi (or shall I say Rabbis?).

Anyway, one of the newest members of the mishpacah (extended family in Yiddish) is Ellis Henican…Newsday Columnist, Fox News Analyist, radio show host (WOR, Fox Radio Network to name a few) and one of our favorite NY:MIEG moderators.

Henican’s column in today’s Newsday is one of the best I’ve read about this whole Caroline Kennedy For Senator business.

How they elected a Kennedy

Caroline Kennedy isn’t the senator. Not yet. But even now, it isn’t a minute too soon to look at the facts as we know them and tease out the backroom politics. I may be getting ahead of myself here. But believe me, there’s an awfully juicy backstory… [Read more...]

Rants & Raves

Before Our Time: a simpler life?

Phyllis Barr, our resident historian, came across an interesting website that I found fascinating. If you were born before 1965 I would expect you might find it of interest as well.

The Idea Alison and Megan are Australian Gen-X women with a love of technology and all the comforts of a 21st Century life, but does it make their lives any simpler than that of their forebears?

Revel in the dodgy research and the use of their families as guinea pigs as they examine the skills and knowledge of the pre-1970 world.

Does Anyone Really Care about those end of years lists?

from WeMedia.com

Question of the Day: List-mania

By Brian Reich

The end of the year is rapidly approaching, which means the media world has once again become obsessed with lists. There are top ten lists popping up in newspapers, magazines, and on radio and TV for everything: crises and controversies, news stories, celebrity train-wrecks, movies, songs, books, and tv shows, iPhone applications, games (both video games and sports games), scientific breakthroughs, even blunders. Just in time for the holidays you’ll find books featuring the top magazine stories of the year, best fiction or sports writing. One columnist wrote up his top top ten lists for the year. Time Magazine published a whole issue devoted to lists. [Read more...]
